The work.

This job was part of the widening of I-405 in Orange County. Designed and built a temporary wireless communications system that used solar power and wireless cell modems, and maintained those systems for the four-year duration of the project, so ITS devices stayed online during construction. Then installed cameras, Ethernet switches, and 22 miles of fiber optic cable from the I-405/I-605 interchange to I-405 and Bristol Street. Crosstown also maintained traffic signals along the corridor and performed on-call maintenance for traffic signal issues.

The benefit.

Cameras, communications, signals, changeable message signs, and ramp metering did not go dark for the four-year widening. People using the 405 still had traveler information, working signals, and agency visibility while the permanent fiber went in.
